Pablo Bartholomew is a photographer with five decades of experience. From 1983 to 2004, his photojournalism appeared in every major international publication, earning him three World Press Photo awards. Notably, his 1984 image of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy won the “Picture of the Year” award.

Since 2000, he has excavated his archive to produce exhibitions including Outside In: A Tale of Three Cities (2007), Bombay: Chronicles of a Past Life (2011), and The Calcutta Diaries (2012). With over 30 solo exhibitions worldwide at galleries, museums, biennales, and photo festivals, his work is held in major institutional and private collections.

In 2005, he began revisiting the archive of his father, Richard Bartholomew. He co-conceived the exhibition A Critic’s Eye (2008) and self-published The Art Critic (2012), a 640-page volume on modern Indian art.

He was awarded the Padma Shri (India) and the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France).

He continues his global Indian Emigrés series while researching his Burmese roots and a DNA-based project on the Chakma people across India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. He is preparing exhibitions and publications to mark both his parents’ centenaries in the coming year.
